What IPO allotment statuses mean
When you check an IPO result, you get one of a few outcomes. They look simple, but the wording trips people up, especially "no record", which sounds like an error and is not always one. Here is what each status means, what is happening to your money, and what you should do next.
Allotted
You got shares. The result shows a number, which is always a multiple of the lot size. If you applied for one lot and see "1 lot", that is the entire application filled. Retail applicants in oversubscribed issues usually get either one lot or nothing, because allotment is by lottery once the retail portion is oversubscribed beyond the minimum bid.
What happens next:
- The shares are credited to the demat account you named in the application, normally the day before listing.
- The part of the blocked amount that does not go to the shares is released. If you bid at the cut-off price and the final price was lower than the cap, the difference comes back too.
- Nothing else is required from you. You do not need to confirm or claim anything.
If your result says allotted but your demat shows no shares yet, wait until the credit date. Read allotment date versus listing date to see when credit is expected.
Not allotted
Your application was valid and was entered in the lottery, but it was not picked. This is a real result, not a failure and not a technical error. In a heavily subscribed issue, many valid applications are not allotted. SME IPOs are even tighter because lot sizes are larger and subscription can be extreme.
What happens next:
- The ASBA block on your bank account, or the UPI mandate, is released. That usually happens within one to two working days after the basis of allotment is finalised.
- No money left your account, so there is nothing to refund in the sense of a transfer. The money was only held. If you see the hold still active after three working days, contact your bank, then your broker.
- Applying again with the same PAN to the same issue is not possible. Use the time to prepare for the next one.
No record (no application found)
"No record" means the registrar's database has no application under that PAN for the issue you picked. It does not always mean you made a mistake, but it is the status most worth investigating. Common causes, in order of likelihood:
- Wrong IPO picked. Check the company name, including words like "Limited", "Industries" and the SME or mainboard label.
- Wrong PAN. Family applications are under the PAN of the person who holds the demat and UPI account.
- Checked too early. The registrar has not yet uploaded allotment data. See how to check IPO allotment status by PAN for timing.
- Application rejected before reaching the lottery. Typical reasons are a UPI mandate that was never accepted, insufficient funds, a PAN and demat name mismatch, or a duplicate bid on the same PAN. Rejected bids drop out of the data, so the PAN shows no record.
- Wrong registrar. Each IPO has exactly one registrar. If you are on the wrong site, it will always say no record. Our checker chooses the correct one for you, and this guide explains how to spot it yourself.
If you cannot tell which one applies, open your broker or UPI app and look at the order history for the IPO. A rejected bid usually shows a reason there, and the blocked amount will already be gone.
Check registrar
This is not a result about your application. It means we could not read the registrar's answer ourselves, either because the registrar needs a captcha, or because its website changed or is under load. Use the link on the slip to check on the registrar's own site. You will need the same PAN and the same IPO.
What the stamp colours mean
Colour is never the only signal. Each status has its own word and its own frame shape on the slip, so the result also reads correctly if you cannot tell red from green.
- Green with double ruled frame: ALLOTTED.
- Red with single ruled frame: NOT ALLOTTED.
- Slate with dashed frame: NO RECORD.
- Amber-brown with open bracket: CHECK REGISTRAR.
Which status needs action from you
| Status | Money | Shares | Your action | |---|---|---|---| | Allotted | Hold converts to payment, excess released | Credited before listing | Watch your demat | | Not allotted | Hold released in 1 to 2 working days | None | Wait for the release | | No record | Check your bank: likely already released | None | Verify IPO, PAN and order history | | Check registrar | Unknown from here | Unknown from here | Open the registrar link |
A note on rumours
Groups and videos sometimes claim a status can be "pending" or "under process". The registrars do not publish such a state. If a site is slow or shows nothing, wait and retry. Anyone offering to "guarantee" or "force" allotment for a fee is not telling the truth, since allotment is decided by lottery under SEBI rules.
