Where your IPO allotment result comes from
Allotment results do not live on the stock exchange. They sit with the issue's registrar, a company the issuer appoints to run the application book, the lottery and the refunds. If you check on the wrong registrar's website, you will get "no record" even though you applied. This guide covers the three names you will meet most, how to tell which one your IPO uses, and what changes between them.
What a registrar does
The registrar to the issue collects bid data from the exchanges and banks, removes invalid and duplicate applications, runs the basis of allotment with the exchange, instructs the unblocking of money, and sends share credits to the depositories. It also handles investor complaints about delays. That is why the registrar is the authoritative source of your result and why every allotment page you trust ends up pointing to one.
The three you will see
- Bigshare Services. Very common for SME and smaller mainboard issues. Its status page lets you search by PAN with no captcha, which makes it quick to check.
- MUFG Intime India. This is the company formerly known as Link Intime, and its pages still show both names in places. It handles a large share of mainboard issues. Its PAN lookup uses an image captcha, so it has to be completed on its own site.
- KFintech. Formerly Karvy Fintech. It serves many mainboard IPOs. Its status site has been unreliable at times, so lookups on it are checked on its own page.
Other registrars exist, such as Skyline Financial and Cameo Corporate, but these three cover most IPOs you will search for.
How to find your IPO's registrar
You do not have to guess. Try these in order:
- The IPO list on our home page. Each recent issue shows its registrar next to the name.
- The allotment advertisement or the Red Herring Prospectus. The registrar's name, address, phone and email appear in the section "Registrar to the Issue", usually on the front pages and again near the end.
- The exchange notice. NSE and BSE issue pages list the registrar for each issue.
- Your broker's IPO page. Most apps show a link labelled "Check allotment" that goes to the right registrar.
If you see two different registrar names for one issue, check the prospectus. Registrars occasionally rebrand, which causes the same company to appear under both old and new names.
What changes between registrars
| | Bigshare | MUFG Intime | KFintech | |---|---|---|---| | Lookup by PAN | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Captcha | No | Yes | Varies | | Checked directly on our site | Yes | No, link out | No, link out |
When our checker can read the registrar directly, you get the answer on the result slip. When it cannot, the slip says CHECK REGISTRAR and gives you a link to the right page, so you never end up searching for the correct site. The PAN you typed can be copied before you open the link.
Why the wrong site gives "no record"
Each registrar's database contains only the issues it manages. A search for a Bigshare IPO on the MUFG site returns nothing, and the site does not tell you that you are in the wrong place. If your result says no record, the first thing to check is the registrar. The statuses guide covers the other causes.
Contacting the registrar
For genuine problems, such as a missing credit or a block that was never released, you can write to the registrar's investor grievance address, which is listed in the prospectus. Include:
- Your name and PAN
- The IPO name and application number
- Your demat DP ID and client ID
- The bank and UPI details you used
- A screenshot of the status you saw
Raise the issue with your broker or bank at the same time, since the delay may be on their side. If no one resolves it, SEBI's complaint portal is the next step.
Keeping it simple
You only need three facts: the IPO name, the PAN you used, and its registrar. Use the checker and it handles the registrar for you. For a walk-through, read how to check allotment status by PAN. For the dates that apply once you have a result, read allotment date versus listing date.
A note on independence
We are not affiliated with any registrar, and we do not decide your result. We pass your PAN to the registrar and show what it returns.
